Date: 21 January 2010 BROCKLEBANK: ‘TIME FOR SNP GOVERNMENT TO ACT ON LEVENMOUTH-THORNTON RAIL LINK’ Ted Brocklebank, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife, has hit out at the SNP government’s failure to bring forward plans for the reinstatement of the rail link between Levenmouth and Thornton junction.
Quizzing Enterprise Minister, Jim Mathers at Question Time today, Mr. Brocklebank challenged the Minister’s assertion that the new Fife Energy Park was a government priority. If it was a priority surely a vital component of its future success would be the Levenmouth – Thornton rail link, yet the SNP government had not brought forward any plans for the urgent reinstatement of the line. Why not, demanded Mr. Brocklebank?
‘The Minister tried to pass the buck to the SNP transport minister and I shall be writing to Stewart Stevenson to ask about progress on the line’
Mr. Brocklebank said later. ‘But surely what is needed for the new Energy Park is joined-up thinking on the government’s part. It’s up to the Enterprise Minister to ensure that his colleagues are up to speed so that Fife does not miss out on any of the business opportunities arising from the renewables revolution, in which the Energy Park will hopefully play a major part.
‘Reinstating the Levenmouth-Thornton link is a vital part of this.’ |
