BROCKLEBANK : ‘MADRAS RESULTS EXCELLENT BUT NEW BRIDGEHEAD SCHOOL COULD PROVIDE EVEN GREATER PUPIL ATTAINMENT’

Recently published school league tables for Scotland have shown that Madras College is the best performing school in Fife. Madras has come 33rd equal in Scotland for the percentage of pupils passing five or more Highers at grades A to C by the end of S5, with 20% of the pupils achieving this standard.

Commenting, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Ted Brocklebank, said;

“I am delighted that Madras College has again excelled itself in this years exam results. The number of pupils gaining five or more Highers at Madras is double the national average and places the school as the 33rd best in Scotland and the best in Fife. I would like to commend the students and teachers for their hard work in achieving these results. I am sure that the school will continue to strive to improve upon these results next year.

“The league tables make a strong argument for school rolls not to exceed a thousand pupils as seven of the ten best performing schools in Scotland contain around one thousand pupils or fewer. I have no doubt that if a new school were built at the Tay Bridgehead, and Madras was reduced to a thousand pupil school, that we would see further improvements in pupil attainment in North East Fife.

“Politics should not be allowed to hinder the education of our children and I hope the SNP/LibDem administration will look again at the need for a new school at the Bridgehead. They have a duty to help every child in North East Fife fulfil their potential.”
