BROCKLEBANK WELCOMES ‘NO’ TO GATHERCAULD WIND FARM, BUT WARNS OF FURTHER FIGHTS AHEAD

Following Fife Council’s rejection of EnergieKontor’s plans for a wind farm development at Gathercauld, the three month period for EnergieKontor to appeal this decision has now passed with no appeal being lodged.

Commenting, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Ted Brocklebank, said;

“I am very pleased that EnergieKontor has decided against appealing the Council’s decision to reject their proposals for a wind farm development at Gathercauld. The local community was vociferous in its opposition to the development proposal for over three years and I am sure they will be delighted that the application process has now come to an end. The development would have scarred the landscape whilst providing little in the way of energy benefits.

“However, EnergieKontor appears not entirely to have lost interest in a wind farm development at Gathercauld, and that the company may make another application in the future. I would urge EnergieKontor, in the strongest possible terms, not to embark upon this course of action. There are far more suitable sites elsewhere in Scotland where wind farm development would be both productive and beneficial.

“Disappointingly, there is already another major wind farm development proposed in North East Fife at South Kinaldy. The local community has already shown itself to be against this proposal and I am firmly of the belief that wind farms should not be forced on communities who do not want them. I will be working with Dr David King, who is spearheading the campaign against the wind farm, to help ensure that it does not become a reality.”
