BROCKLEBANK DISAPPOINTED MARKET STREET UPGRADE WILL NOT BE COMPLETED FOR THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

Commenting on Fife Council’s plans for the upgrading of Market Street in St Andrews, which will see the reconstruction of the road, walkways and street lighting, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Ted Brocklebank, said;

“I have long campaigned for an upgrade of Market Street in St Andrews and I was particularly pleased when funding was finally advanced for the project earlier this year. The Council’s plans for a complete overhaul of Market Street are set to ensure that the world class reputation of the town is maintained. This is something which has not been assured over the past few years due to the extent of disrepair and dilapidation seen in Market Street.

“However, I am disappointed at the lack of urgency shown by the SNP/LibDem led Council administration in progressing the project. With the Open Championship coming to the town next summer it should have been a priority to get the project moving and completed by the start of the Championship. This would have allowed the large number of tourists attending to see the town in its best light and would have greatly benefited the local economy.”
