BROCKLEBANK NOT SURPRISED AT SMITH’S COMMENTS ON TAY BRIDGEHEAD SCHOOL DEBATE

Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Ted Brocklebank, has hit back at Iain Smith’s claim that the important issue of a new secondary school for North East Fife is inappropriate for a members’ business debate in the Scottish Parliament.

Mr Brocklebank said;

“I am not surprised that Iain Smith is surprised at my wish to have the bridgehead school issue debated in the Scottish Parliament. Unlike Mr Smith and the SNP-Lib Dem administration I have not flip-flopped in my view over many years that pupils along the Tay estuary deserve a separate state of the art secondary school at the bridgehead.

“Iain Smith attempts to confuse the issue of the bridgehead school with the new single-site secondary school for Madras. We need both. It would be the height of folly to build the wrong size of replacement for Madras. It was a Lib Dem Council leak that revealed that the projected pupil roll figures for Madras were far from robust. I have heard nothing from Fife Council to convince me that their latest projected figures are any more accurate, particularly since we still have no idea how many new houses will eventually be built in St Andrews and along the Tay estuary under the local plan.”
