ST ANDREWS FESTIVAL GAINS GOVERNMENT FUNDING

The Scottish Government has awarded the St Andrews Festival £40,000 in funding. This support has been vital in enabling the festival to proceed.

Commenting on this funding support, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Ted Brocklebank, said;

“I am delighted that the Scottish Government has decided to award the St Andrews Festival £40,000 which has ensured that the celebration of Scotland’s patron saint goes ahead as planned. The festival has been dogged by financial problems throughout the year and at one point there was the very real possibility that it may have to be cancelled.

“I wrote to the Culture Minister and urged him in the chamber of the Scottish Parliament to look at the funding arrangements for the festival and I am pleased that he has heeded these calls. In this year of Homecoming it would have been unforgivable if the town named after our patron saint could not stage its local festival due to funding constraints. It will now play a major role in Homecoming Scotland’s finale weekend and I look forward to attending.”
