BROCKLEBANK : WORRYING RISE IN NUMBERS CLAIMING UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT IN NORTH EAST FIFE

Commenting on news that the numbers of North East Fifers claiming unemployment benefit has rocketed over the past year, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Ted Brocklebank, said;

“These new figures are very disheartening and provide no indication that Gordon Brown’s recession is likely to end anytime soon. Over the past year there has been a massive 77% increase in the number of people from North East Fife claiming unemployment benefit. This amounts to a further 433 people having to pay the ultimate price for Labour’s economic mismanagement by losing their jobs and signing on.

“This is just not good enough. We need to reinvigorate the economy immediately to ensure that there are no further job losses across Scotland. This requires far more effective action to be taken by both the Westminster and Scottish governments as the damage these job losses are having on local communities cannot be underestimated.”
