Date: 31 July 2009 BROCKLEBANK WELCOMES INCREASING NATIONAL TRUST MEMBERSHIP Conservative Shadow Minister for Culture, Ted Brocklebank MSP, has welcomed the new membership figures released by the National Trust for Scotland which show that 6000 new members joined between February and July.
Commenting, Mr Brocklebank said;
“It is pleasing to see that the National Trust for Scotland membership has grown by 6000 members between February and July and now stands at a record 315,000. The financial difficulties experienced by the NTS over the past year have been well documented with eleven loss-making properties being identified for closure earlier in the year. Three of these properties have received a last minute reprieve but the Trust’s financial situation remains critical.
“Hopefully this surge in membership will continue in the months and years ahead, helping the Trust to regain a more stable financial footing and making sure that there are no further property closures. The NTS plays an important role in protecting Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage - increasing public support and membership of the Trust is vital to ensuring the long-term sustainability of all of its properties.”
