BROCKLEBANK : EXCELLENT NEWS THAT GATHERCAULD WIND FARM DEVELOPMENT HAS BEEN REJECTED

Commenting on news that Fife Council’s North East Fife Area Committee has rejected the proposals for a wind farm development at Gathercauld, Ted Brocklebank, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, and long-term opponent of the development, said;

“It is excellent news that the North East Fife Area Committee has listened to the local community and rejected plans for a wind farm at Gathercauld. For more than three years the local community has been vociferous in its objections to the proposal and I am very pleased that their perseverance has been rewarded.

“If the plans had been allowed to proceed, as Council planning officials recommended, the wind farm would have become the defining feature of the area. The energy benefits gained from the development would have been insignificant and in no way would have compensated for the scarring of the landscape.

“After their previous proposal for a wind farm development at Rossie, near Auchtermuchty, was rejected I hope that EnergieKontor will stop pursuing a wind farm development in North East Fife. There are far more suitable areas elsewhere in Scotland where wind farm development would be both productive and beneficial.”
