BROCKLEBANK WELCOMES NHS FIFE PILOT ROLE

The Scottish Government has today announced that NHS Fife and NHS Dumfries and Galloway will pilot the first direct elections to health boards. Elections will take place in Spring 2010 and the initiative will run for at least two years before being independently evaluated.

Commenting, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Ted Brocklebank, said;

“NHS Fife has been chosen to pilot the new initiative for directly elected health boards and I am very interested to see if it can be a success. With elected members forming a majority on the board, the elections provide an opportunity for greater accountability and engagement with the public on the provision of health services. I hope that this will help ensure that local views are not only heard, but acted upon.

“I am sure that Fifers will welcome the chance to have a greater say in how their NHS services are run. However, we will have to wait and see if the pilot can work effectively and succeed in providing a greater voice to local views.”
