BROCKLEBANK TABLES PARLIAMENTARY MOTION URGING FOR A NEW TAY BRIDGEHEAD SECONDARY SCHOOL

Ted Brocklebank, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, has tabled a parliamentary motion in the Scottish Parliament calling for a new secondary school for the Tay Bridgehead area. Commenting on his parliamentary motion, Ted said;

“It is vital that a new secondary school is built in the Tay Bridgehead area, in addition to the proposed single site at Madras College, to give all North East Fife children access to a full and varied school education.

“Over the past fifty years there have been repeated calls and campaigns for a new secondary school to serve the children and communities of the Tay Bridgehead area. Recent coverage from local North East Fife newspapers has shown that support for a new school continues to grow. Generations of children have had their education and extra-curricular pursuits damaged by the lack of a local secondary school. This disservice to the children of North East Fife continues unabated. There are currently around 850 pupils who are bussed to Madras College from the Tay Bridgehead and Leuchars area.

“The Liberal Democrats have claimed that the SNP/LibDem coalition in Fife has made much progress in trying to address the inadequate accommodation at Madras College. However, recent leaked figures have indicated that the new Madras College will not have the capacity to accommodate future pupil roll numbers. The Fife administration’s actions have so far shown them to be putting politics before pupils, instead of trying to find a solution that will provide all youngsters in North East Fife with the best education possible. “

Text of Ted’s motion;

*S3M-4110# Ted Brocklebank: New Secondary School for North East Fife—That the Parliament believes that the children, parents and communities of Tay Bridgehead in north east Fife require a new secondary school and community facility in addition to the proposed single site at Madras College; highlights that the campaign for a new Tay Bridgehead school has been ongoing for more than half a century; considers, in light of recent leaked figures, that the proposed new Madras College will not be big enough to accommodate all the pupils, including those from the Tay Bridgehead area; notes that currently around 850 pupils from the Tay Bridgehead and Leuchars area have to be bussed to school and that this has affected their education and involvement in school activities, as has been the case for generations; congratulates The Courier, Fife Herald and St Andrews Citizen Newspaper for highlighting the growing public support for a Tay Bridgehead school, and supports all those involved in the campaign.
