BROCKLEBANK URGES FIFE COUNCIL TO IMPROVE ITS PROPERTY MAINTENANCE

The recent Audit Scotland report, Asset management in Local Government, has highlighted the shocking state of council properties across Scotland. The report shows that a quarter of Fife Council buildings are substandard. Commenting, Ted Brocklebank, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, said;

“The Audit Scotland report makes for very depressing reading and has underlined the need for councils across Scotland to improve their property management.

“Fife Council, in particular, needs to improve its asset management. Over a quarter of council buildings in the Kingdom are reported to be of both, a substandard condition, and insufficiently suitable for the services they deliver. This is the second highest in the country and highlights the urgent need for Fife Council to introduce an effective, long-term strategy to improve the standard and quality of council buildings.

“Fife Council properties already have a large property maintenance backlog and there is a real danger that this will lead to an increasing number of council buildings that are second-class and not fit for purpose. If Fife Council does not improve the way it manages its assets then the quality of services available to the public will suffer.”
