Date: 02 May 2009 BROCKLEBANK WELCOMES NEWS OF AWARDS FOR CLEANLINESS GAINED BY LARGE NUMBER OF FIFE BEACHES Commenting on news that 14 Fife beaches have attained the ‘Keep Scotland Beautiful’ seaside award for the cleanliness of their sands and water, Ted Brocklebank, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, said;
“It is superb news that so many Fife beaches have been recognised for the cleanliness of their sands and water by ‘Keep Scotland Beautiful’. Fourteen beaches in Fife have gained the seaside award, increasing from twelve last year. I am also particularly pleased that five of the seven Scottish beaches awarded the top international Blue Flag honour were in Fife.
“With excellent weather forecast for the summer, the large number of quality beaches in Fife will undoubtedly help attract greater visitor numbers to the area. Many of our seaside towns in Fife have been hit hard by Gordon Brown’s recession and an increase in visitors will provide a much-needed boost to the local economy.”
