BROCKLEBANK WELCOMES DROP IN CRIME IN NORTH EAST FIFE

The Chief Inspector of Fife Police’s Eastern Division announced a fall in crime of nearly 10% for the year up to 31 March 2009. This is above the most recent national figures of September 2008 which showed an 8% reduction in crime across Scotland.

Commenting, Ted Brocklebank, Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, said;

“I welcome the news from Fife Police’s Eastern Division that there has been a fall in crime of nearly 10% in North East Fife over the past year. This compares to a 7% drop for the Western Division and a 3% drop for the Central Division of Fife Constabulary. The Eastern Division’s figures show that there were 2798 incidents of crime over the past year. This is down 300 incidents from last year and nearly 1000 down on the figures from 2006-07.

“These figures prove that the Fife Police’s Eastern Division continues to do a magnificent job in keeping North East Fife safe. However, the slower rate of crime reduction seen in the Western and Eastern Divisions highlights the importance in making sure the SNP government does not fail in its commitment to provide 1000 extra police officers, throughout Scotland, by 2011. Additional police officers in Fife will help ensure that crime rates continue to fall across the Kingdom.”
